Choosing chicken coops & chook pens

A little house for the backyard flock. Compare chicken coops and chook pens by their layout, footprint and the way you like to care for your hens.

01

Start with the whole layout

Compare the sheltered house and the attached run separately. Overall dimensions help you plan the garden, but they do not tell you the usable floor area inside the house.

02

Make daily jobs easier

Look at how you would reach the nesting area, refill food and water, and clean the interior. Leave enough room around opening doors and removable parts.

03

Choose the right package

A coop, a run extension and a complete set are different purchases. Each product page lists what is included so you can compare like for like.

Chicken Coops & Chook Pens: your questions

What is the difference between a chicken coop and a run?

The coop is the sheltered housing; the run is the adjoining enclosed area. Some layouts combine both. A run extension on its own does not include a coop.

How many chickens will fit?

Overall size alone cannot confirm flock capacity. Check usable housing and run space, your birds’ needs and their daily access to other suitable space before choosing. We do not assign a flock capacity where it has not been verified.

Can I collect a chicken coop in Sydney?

Cage Warehouse is based in Ingleburn NSW. Collection is available by prior appointment. Confirm the order, collection time and packed dimensions before arranging a vehicle.
