A chicken coop, a coop-and-run set and a run extension can look similar in a product photograph. They are not the same purchase. Start by separating the sheltered house from the enclosed outdoor area, then check exactly which parts the listing includes.
Read the package before comparing the price
- Coop: check whether the listing includes a run or describes the house alone.
- Coop-and-run set: identify both components and the dimensions of the complete arrangement.
- Run extension: an additional section. Do not assume the coop pictured beside it comes in the package.
In the Cage Warehouse range, Meadow Chicken Coop, Meadow Run Extension and Meadow Extended Coop Set are different listings. Compare their included-components notes. An image showing the assembled setup is useful for understanding the layout, but it is not the packing list.
Mark out two rectangles, not just one
First mark the complete external length and width on your chosen spot. Then mark the extra space needed to open doors, lift a lid and remove any cleaning parts. The first rectangle shows where the structure sits; the second shows whether you can use it comfortably.
For example, a 200 × 100 cm structure occupies a 2 × 1 m rectangle. That calculation says nothing about how much of the footprint is sheltered housing, how much is run, or how many hens it can accommodate. Check those separately. This example is a measuring exercise, not a product specification or flock-capacity recommendation.
Check an extension like a spare part
Confirm the named compatible model, attachment opening, required connectors and final assembled dimensions. Matching timber colour or a similar roof does not prove that two sections connect. If connection details are missing, get confirmation before ordering either item.
Your shortlist checklist
- Write down the exact package name and included parts.
- Record house dimensions, run dimensions and complete external dimensions separately.
- Check how you reach the interior for daily care and cleaning.
- List any unconfirmed measurements or fittings.
- Confirm delivery or packed dimensions for collection.
